How Caribbean Kitchen By Lystra was born

I am Lystra Seepersad-Baksh, the founder of Caribbean kitchen by Lystra. An entrepreneur who is passionate about food and believes in providing great food and exceptional service to it’s customers and has been doing so for the past seven years.

I am a self-taught chef who adopted my own techniques and recipes through practice. The recipes and techniques I have created throughout the years is what I use in my cooking workshops to assist others to enhance their cooking skills. Being a gourmet chef is a lot of hard work, making everything from scratch can be labor intensive but worthwhile in the end. Though it is rewarding, it takes a lot of determination, dedication, motivation, procrastination, and an unwavering desire to succeed. In the midst of it all I remain humble, focus and genuine when conducting business with my customers.

A passion for good food turned into my Dream Job.

My aim is simple – to offer quality gourmet food and affordable pricing to everyone.
On Facebook, I am recognized for my unique food post and creative presentations. My innovative presentation attracted a thread of members on my group page Caribbean Kitchen by Lystra. Members would communicate with me to ask for recipes and videos on how to create the food I display.

At that moment, I knew I had a responsibility to assist other people to regain their confidence in the kitchen and improve their cooking skills.

What started off as a hobby posting food on True Trini Food and Recipes rapidly developed into a dream job. If you do what you love, you’ll never have to work a day in your life.

First, I launched my cooking workshop. It was an astounding success from the inception with a few minor challenges. Cooking live and interacting with my members is so much fun, a ‘stress reliever’ some would call it. My first class was a Hands-On roti and curry workshop. Everyone was super excited to attend. It was an awesome experience that took me from one workshop to many more workshops in a variety of cuisines. Some other workshops held are Chinese cuisines, Italian, cooking, American breakfast, Indian appetizers, and Christmas cooking. These workshops would also be virtual to reach everyone around the world who wants to learn about Trinidad culture. Sharing my knowledge and recipes with members in my hands-on workshop is one of life’s simplest and greatest pleasures.

In 2019, another new business idea was born: Caribbean Kitchen & Pool Lounge

After the success of my Cooking Workshops, I had another idea to expand and create a cozy, private and safe outdoor space for members to come celebrate an event with their nearest and dearest or just relax and unwind. Our outdoor space is a Swimming Pool Lounge, it offers the perfect opportunity to de-stress, have fun, and make yourself feel at home.
Amenities include access to private swimming pool (2ft kids’ area, 3 1/2ft sloping till 6ft) BBQ grill, backdrop stand, charging ports, seating in a covered area, cooler, portable bar, tables, tablecloths for rent, loungers, self-powered music box, and Wi-Fi. You are allowed to bring your own food and drinks or I can cater for your event.
